Scratch Orchestra

with Roger Huckle

Saturday 23rd January 2016

Venue: Gasworks Studio, St Werburghs

The first workshop of 2016 saw the biggest (and best!) Be More Musical Scratch Orchestra yet. We met in the musical haven of the Gasworks studio in St Werburghs. Having crossed the threshold of an unassuming terraced house, the members of the orchestra entered a tranquil environment that inspired a day of music making. Roger Huckle led the 25-piece orchestra through an exciting and varied repertoire: including the Scratch Orchestra anthem - Liberty Bell March - a medley of songs from the Sound of Music and (the biggest challenge and greatest reward of the day) Copland's energetic Rodeo. Everyone was worked hard (with a break for lunch in the beautiful garden of the Gasworks Studio) as we played all day and finished off by performing a short concert for ourselves. There was a real sense of community throughout the day as musicians of all levels and from all backgrounds came together for the common joy of making music.

All the music was great and the place was wonderful.

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the workshop even though the music was challenging
